Keep a conversation moving, compare answers, and find or reuse earlier work.
On this page
Before you send
- Choose a local model, remote endpoint, Constellation model, or configured Autopilot route.
- Add instructions and supported attachments. Wait for document indexing before asking questions that need its contents.
- Turn tools on or off in the chat, Tools tab, or Settings. Each tool has one remembered switch for this installation; changing it applies to other chats too.
- Chat Modes and Answer Styles have been removed. Existing chats and projects remain readable and use default response behavior. The Mac coding task picker is separate and still offers Chat, Agent, Plan, and Review.
Ask alongside the conversation

Find, remember, and organize
- Search chats by title and message content. Find in Chat searches inside the current conversation.
- Use Remember This on a reply to save a fact for future conversations, then review what Noema keeps in memory settings.
- Use temporary chats when you do not want a normal saved conversation. Recently Deleted provides a place to review deleted chats.
- Reuse prompts from the Prompt Library, bookmark replies, and use Export Chat to take a conversation with you.
Files, windows, and everyday controls
- Share to Noema or Open in Noema from other apps. Scan documents, paste supported photos and files, or drag them into a chat.
- On Mac, Option-Space opens Quick Chat; Command-K opens the command palette. Return sends and Shift-Return adds a line, unless you change the send-key preference.
- On iPad, open a chat in its own window. iPhone supports landscape. Widgets and Control Center controls offer quick access to Noema.
- Generation can continue briefly when you switch apps; system background limits still apply. Return to Noema to check completion.
Status, sources, and long chats
The status line shows preparation, reasoning, replies, and remote activity. Review citations and open the source when accuracy matters. Adjacent source numbers stay separated, such as ³,¹¹.
Long conversations can compact older context to leave room for the next turn. Compaction condenses earlier material; start a focused chat when exact wording matters.
Chats are stored individually for faster loading and to keep a damaged conversation from affecting other saved chats. Sync and remote model access keep their own settings.
On Mac: retry and delete messages
On Mac, Noema places an accepted message in the transcript immediately, before workspace preparation begins. Preparing message means Noema is preparing the request, reasoning activity appears when a supported model is thinking, and reply text appears as the model produces its answer. Preparation can take time when the request includes documents, attachments, or workspace context.
For conversations with history enabled, Noema saves changes automatically.
Retry an interrupted send
If a send is interrupted before an assistant response starts, choose Retry Message beside the existing user message or from its right-click menu. Noema retries the saved message and its attachments without inserting another copy into the transcript.
Retry is available for the latest eligible user message. It may be disabled while another request is running.
Delete an individual message
Wait for the active request to finish, or stop it. Then right-click the message and choose Delete Message.
Noema removes the selected message while preserving later user and assistant messages, including their order and content. Later replies remain as originally generated; deleting an earlier message does not regenerate them. Deletion controls are unavailable while the conversation is preparing or streaming a request.
